From start to finish - Get your child ready for BYOD
Read Everything
Make sure you have read all the information on this website. If you are as excited as we are about BYOD at RVPS then move down this list. If you are still unsure, contact me (Mr Cuthbertson) or Mr Grierson by phone at school or pop in for chat.
Prepare or Purchase Your Device
Visit the Device Specification page to see if your device is suitable. Set it up!
Depending on your device, this part will vary. Please see Device Specifications for minimum requirements.
Agree to the Program
Go over to our agreements page. Fill in the necessary paperwork and return it to the office. Ensure your child fully understands the rules and responsibilities we have put in place. It is important to be on the same page as your child and the school. As a team we will work with you to ensure rules are followed and that we have a shared understanding of what 'responsible use' is.
Establish routines.
This may be the first time your child has had the responsibility of taking care of a digital device. We strongly recommend you work out some routines and expectations for home that you both agree to stick to. When and where is the device to be used? Set time limits and talk about where the device is to be used (not in bedrooms). Who is responsible for charging the device each night? (Make this your child's job!) What happens if I break the home rules? As parents, the consequences for breaking home rules is completely your decision, however we ask that those consequences do not impact upon your child's opportunity to use their device at school. Rules broken at home have consequences relevant to home and rules broken at school have consequences relevant to school.
